VA programs to check first
The VA administers several life insurance programs, and you apply for them directly through the VA at va.gov/life-insurance, not through us.
- Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance (SGLI) for those currently serving
- Veterans' Group Life Insurance (VGLI), which lets you continue SGLI coverage after separation if you apply within the VA's deadline
- Veterans Affairs Life Insurance (VALife), guaranteed acceptance whole life for veterans with a service-connected disability rating
Where private coverage comes in
Some veterans add a private policy because they missed a VA enrollment window, want more coverage than a VA program offers, or find a private policy costs less at their age and health. A licensed agent can quote private options so you can compare them with your VA benefits.
Watch for misleading offers
Private companies cannot sell you VA insurance, and the VA does not charge a fee to apply for its programs. Be wary of any offer that implies otherwise.
Common questions
Is this a VA website?
No. This is a private website. For VA benefits, go to va.gov or call the VA directly.
Can I have VA and private life insurance together?
Yes. Holding a VA policy does not prevent you from buying private coverage.
